Ms. Merine Evans – Mitchell – Updated

Ms. Merine Evans – Mitchell, 74, of Rosston, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at Christus St. Michael Healthcare System in Texarkana, Texas, on the morning of June 20, 2025. She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend and was a self-proclaimed “Domino Queen,” and most importantly a child of God who was a member of Bethel AME Church in Rosston, Arkansas.
She attended Oak Grove High School prior to moving to California in search of a better life. She ended up continuing her education and would become a Licensed Practical Nurse, (LPN) and worked at Melinda’s Nursing Home in Los Angeles, California until she decided to move back to Arkansas. She loved her sons and her grandchildren and spent as much time with them as she could. She loved Gospel and Blues Music.
She was born to the late Mr. A.D. Evans, and the late Mrs. Mamie Young-Evans on August 8, 1950, in Cale, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by both parents, one sister, Ms. Ruthie Lee Evans. Three brothers, Mr. Earnest Lee Evans, Alvin Evans, and Mr. Jonathan Evans.
She is survived by and leaves to cherish her many memories, two sons, Mr. Michael (Ramona) Mitchell of Rosston, Arkansas and Mr. LaJah Mitchell of Kush, Oklahoma. Her husband of fifty-eight years, Mr. Charles Otis Mitchell of Los Angeles, California. Five sisters. Nadine Quarles, of Dallas Texas, Ms. Diana Purifoy, of Hope, Arkansas, Ms. Dexter (Richard) Young, of Rosston, Arkansas, Ms. Yvonne (Clarence) Gulley of Bluff City, Arkansas, and Ms. Frances Evans, of Rosston, Arkansas. Two brothers, Mr. Jewel Evans, of Rosston, Arkansas and Mr. Edward Jackson of Camden, Arkansas. Four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a special niece who served as her home health provider, Ms. Sharona Young.
Her service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 1641 AR 200, Rosston, AR 71858, where Rev. Greg Gulley will serve as Officiant and Pastor Allen Yarbrough will serve as Eulogist under the direction of Hamilton-Davis Funeral Home. There will be a public visitation from at the church prior to the service from 12:00 P.M. until 1:00 P.M. and interment will be at New Salem Cemetery, 8030 U.S. Highway 278, Rosston, Arkansas 71858.
