Jesus Coronado announces for sheriff
My esteemed friends, neighbors and family,
It has been my honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Hope and Hempstead County for the last 24 years. With a humble heart and mind, I am announcing my candidacy for Sheriff.
All my life I have sought to seek a life of service to God and my community. When I began my law enforcement career in 2001 my lifelong dream was one day to be your Sheriff. With your support, I am hoping you will help me reach this milestone and entrust your safety and well being to me and the department.
For those of you who don’t know me, I would like to share my law enforcement background, experience and leadership dating back to June of 2001:
● While attending the Police Academy, the training staff recognized my ability to step up and take charge of situations and provide direction to other recruits and was asked to fill the role of squad leader.
● With less than a year on the streets of Hope, I was entrusted with the position of senior patrolman and I diligently rose to the challenge.
● In 2003 I was promoted to Detective and continued on the path of my goals to be a leader.
○ I have completed over 2,100 hours of extensive law enforcement training in my career as a member of the Hope Police Department. A sample of my training is listed below:
■ Basic Certificate 2003
■ General Certificate 2004
■ Crime Scene Technician 2004
■ Advanced crime scene certificate 2008
■ Intermediate Certificate 2009
■ Crime Scene Investigation Certificate of Proficiency 2010
■ Narcotics Officer Certificate program Session IX 2010
■ Instructor Development 2012
■ Advanced Certificate 2013
■ School of Law Enforcement Supervision 2013
■ Defensive Tactics Instructor 2015
■ Senior Certificate 2017
■ Child grooming and prevention certificate 2020
■ Preventing online crimes against children certificate 2020
■ Amber alert best practices certificate 2022
■ Child abduction and exploitation investigation during disaster and emergency certificate 2022
■ Arkansas Leader 2023
■ Certificate of Merit 2023.
■ Member of the Arkansas (CART) Child Abduction Response Team
● In 2012 I was promoted to Detective Sergeant
○ Spent countless days and dedicated hours to collaborating with other federal, state and county agencies upon request. During my time in criminal investigation, protection for children is a topic that has been very close to my heart and a duty which I held sacred.
○ I specialized in child abuse and sexual assault crimes against children. In 2012 I was promoted to detective sergeant and completed yet another goal. In 2021 I decided to challenge myself a bit more and took on the task of patrol lieutenant.
● Completing the Arkansas law enforcement leader program in 2022 was yet another path of goals. I strongly stand by the word leader.
I wholeheartedly believe a leader is what God has intended me to do since day one of my law enforcement career.
Volunteering is a key part of service and building relationships with the community and something I committed to on or off duty. Some of my volunteer activities include:
● Assumed responsibilities for the Law enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics in 2022 and incorporated game and fish, firemen, and other law enforcement agencies to join.
○ The numbers of volunteer runners tripled for the run!
● In 2020 I initiated hosting a softball tournament in the fall to help raise additional funds for the Santa cop program.
○ We raised over $2,000 in 2020
○ We raised over $3000 in 2021
○ We raised over $4,000 in 2022 and 2023
○ We raised over $6000 in 2024.
My wife Heather and I have been together for 22 years. We have raised four children, Alex, (29) Caitlyn (27) Austin (25) Xander (14) and 3 grandchildren, Aria (5), Londynn (3) Isabella (1). All my children were raised in Hope and my oldest 3 graduated from the Hope School District.
I dedicated countless hours volunteering as head baseball coach for all three of my boys from little league until they reached high school. Even head coached a tournament team during the regular season. Many of my tournament players were from the Blevins, Spring Hill and Hope area. We traveled many miles playing baseball and parents always gave me the support I needed.
I’m a Republican and an honest Christian who lives by faith. Children are the most important topic of our community as they are the future of Hope and Hempstead County. I served on the Hope School Board for 10 years and believe education is what builds a powerful community.
With your support on Election Day my priorities will focus on:
● Department structure and extensive high-level training for deputies and the detention facility employees.
● Community relations.
● School programs based on child abuse, bullying, drugs, mental health, higher education and career development.
● Budget issues, health insurance costs and better wages for deputies.
I have dedicated 24 years to an agency that has supported my goals since day 1. I have raised my kids to put God first, keep faith and follow his word. My ultimate goal in life is to run for Sheriff when the time was right. The time is right and I ask that you trust me to serve your county in the position of Hempstead County Sheriff.
God first and live by faith.
With all respect
Jesus Coronado
Republican Candidate for Sheriff of Hempstead County
