Carl Jackson Wins Watermelon Idol, Megan Wins Jr. Watermelon Idol, Buzz Andrews Opens for Jason Scheff and Tommy Decarlo

A great crowd turned out for the annual Hope Watermelon Festival concert Saturday (8-8) at Legion Field.  The program started with the Watermelon Idol contests and then moved into the featured performers.

Megan Flowers was the Jr Watermelon Idol Winner , she is a 7th grade student at Garrett Memorial Christian School in Hope.

Hometown favorite Carl Jackson was the Watermelon Idol winner.  He’s well-known for his outstanding singing and entertaining.  Our congratulations go to Carl on his victory!

The Buzz Andrews Band was the opening act for the headliners.  Andrews grew up in Hope although he now lives in Texas.  Plenty of his friends and classmates were on hand to cheer his set.  Buzz was a member of the Zonks, the local band that played on the roof of the Dairy Queen in Hope in the 1960’s.  A photo of them graces hundreds of Dairy Queens all over the country.
