Riley Fincher Crowned Champion at Annual Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest

The sweet taste of summer was in full swing this Saturday as families gathered for the annual Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest, a beloved tradition that brought laughter, friendly competition, and plenty of watermelon juice to the local fairgrounds.

Participants were divided into three age categories: 0–7, 8–16, and 17 and up, with each group showcasing impressive skill and surprising distance in their seed-spitting prowess.

In the youngest division (ages 0–7), Alex Coza, Lucas White, and Lawson White took top honors, delighting the crowd with their enthusiasm and technique.

The 8–16 age group saw fierce competition, but it was Riley Fincher, Javion Maury, and Jayce Smith White who emerged victorious, with Fincher’s performance standing out as a highlight of the day.

The adult division (17 and up) featured some serious contenders, with Ryan Looper, A.J. Ortego, and Greg Hill claiming the top spots. Their precision and power drew cheers from spectators and set the stage for the final showdown.

After all age groups had competed, the event culminated in a thrilling overall championship round. In a stunning display of skill and distance, Riley Fincher outperformed all other finalists to become the overall champion of the 2025 Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest.

Organizers praised the turnout and sportsmanship, noting that the event continues to grow in popularity each year. “It’s not just about who can spit the farthest,” said one volunteer. “It’s about community, tradition, and having fun.” With watermelon slices in hand and smiles all around, attendees left already looking forward to next year’s contest—and perhaps practicing their technique in the meantime.
