Emmet City Council

The Emmet City Council met on Thursday (8-21).  The meeting was called to order at 7pm.  All board members were present.  After the prayer led by Maurice Grant, the board made a motion to accept last meeting’s minutes.
Rob Clark made a motion to correct the errors and approve the corrected minutes.  Shannon Peck 2nded the motion.

Deanna Allen, who lives outside the Emmet city limits, was present to discuss further the annexation of the Allen property and some neighbors.  She asked the council to make a motion to approve the proposition.  Grant Cox said he had a problem with the annexation, as he had talked to several citizens, who did not approve of the annexation.  Mrs. Allen said she does not pay the city tax, like citizens do, making it not fair for the citizens.  Mrs. Allen said there would need to be a motion to appropriate the money needed, $5,000.  Maurice Grant asked if they had the appropriate funds.  After some discussion, Maurice Grant, with Shannon Peck seconding it, made a motion to table the topic for the time being, until the budget can be looked at.  There was discussion as one board member insisted they make a motion appropriate the money.  Mrs. Allen asked the board to read the first reading of the annexation ordinance.  Maurice Grant, with Shannon Peck seconding, made a motion to have it read.  Rosaland McBride read the ordinance.
Rob Clark made mention that he has had several people ask him who was maintaining the cemetery.  There was some discussion about a fence dividing the African-American side and the Caucasian side.  There was some discussion about using city equipment to maintain the cemetery, which is not owned by the city.
A citizen, Carla Love, asked if the ambulance could find houses in Emmet.  She gave an example, saying that someone passed away recently, and that the ambulance couldn’t find the house.  Grant Cox told Mrs. Love that he could get her a contact to ask.
The meeting was adjourned.
