Stand up for your neighbors: Hunger Action Month and the Mission of Hope In Action
HOPE – Every day in Hempstead County, Arkansas, families wake up not knowing where their next meal will come from. That’s not an abstract statistic; it’s a reality for thousands of your neighbors. Arkansas leads the nation in food insecurity. One in five Arkansans struggles with hunger. And right here in Hempstead County, Hope In Action is on the front lines, doing the hard work to keep food on tables and hope alive.
September is Hunger Action Month, a nationwide campaign aimed at raising awareness and inspiring action to combat hunger. This is your chance to do something real—something local. Hope In Action, based in Hope, Arkansas, is not a big-name charity using glossy ads to collect money that will be spent elsewhere. Hope In Action is your neighbor, your safety net, your community stepping up when everything else falls apart.
What You Can Do This Hunger Action Month
You don’t have to solve hunger on your own. But you can do something that matters. Here’s how:
⦁ Donate food. Items such as canned vegetables, pasta, rice, peanut butter, and meat are always needed.
⦁ Give money. Every dollar helps fill shelves and fuel services. Even a small donation can make a significant impact.
⦁ Volunteer. Whether it is helping to organize the pantry, serving meals at the shelter, or delivering food, your time makes a difference.
⦁ Spread the word. Talk about hunger. Share Hope In Action’s mission with your church, school, or workplace. Awareness creates action.
Why It Matters
Hunger is not just about missing meals. It is missed opportunities, weakened health, and children falling behind in school. It is parents going without so their kids can eat. It is veterans, seniors, and people working full-time jobs still not having enough.
Hope In Action sees these struggles every day and meets them with compassion, consistency, and care. They can’t do it alone.
This Hunger Action Month, show up for Hope. Show up for Hempstead County. Show up for your neighbors.
