Prairie D’Ane Battlefield seeks volunteers

PRESCOTT – The Nevada County Depot Museum is seeking volunteers for a second clean-up day at Prairie D’Ane, scheduled for Saturday, September 13, in preparation for the upcoming Civil War Days. Tools and equipment will be provided but those who prefer to bring their own are encouraged to do so. For details, call 870-887-5821 or email TheDepotMuseum@gmail.com.
Prairie D’Ane Battlefield is a National Landmark site located at 2243 Highway 19 in Prescott, Arkansas. In April 1864 Federal and Confederate forces battled in skirmishes that lasted 4 days. The September 13 clean up day will prepare the site for a reenactment of this event.
“In early November, The Depot Museum will be partnering with Historic Washington State Park to present Civil War Days,” said Paul Ridgell, Board President, “but there is still a lot to do to prepare the battle site for the reenactment. This is a chance to finish what we started in May.”
Civil War Days is scheduled for October 31 through November 2 with the reenactment happening on November 1 and 2. The event is open to the public with an admission price of $10 per vehicle. Guided tours of the encampment will be offered during the event.
Prairie D’Ane Battlefield is located at 2243 Highway 19, just off of I30 exit 46 in historic Prescott, Arkansas. Anyone who would like to help is invited. Those who are able to bring their own tools are welcome to bring any of the following: cordless power drills, string trimmers, hammers, crowbars, buckets, etc. Professionals who volunteer their services can receive a tax write-off for the value of their work.
The Prairie is preserved by the Nevada County Depot Museum, a 501(c)3 non-profit humanities organization dedicated to preserving and sharing regional history.
