HOMER, AK – Randy Bobo of Hope recently landed a 250-lb halibut in the Cook Inlet on a fishing trip out of Homer, Alaska. Bobo (left) is pictured with his nephew Logan Webster (center) and famous Alaskan guide Kyle Hall (right).

The typical halibut catch is 20–40 lbs., according to Alaskan fishing charter websites, while halibut over 100 lbs. are often called “barn door” halibut. The title “true barn door” is reserved for halibut exceeding 200 lbs., of which only a handful are caught each season. Bobo and Webster also visited the historic gold-rush town of Hope, Alaska, during their trip. Webster recommends contacting Kenai Riverbend Resort of Soldotna to begin planning an Alaskan angling adventure.
