Prescott defeats Hope in Friday night football

HOPE – The Bobcats played the Curley Wolves in a close game down to the wire Friday night at Hammons Stadium.
With the score 14-14 at the half, despite a solid performance by the Bobcats on both sides of the ball, Prescott outscored the Bobcats 20 to 6 in the third quarter to hold on to the win.
Trey Hoglund had a spectacular game completing 6 of 14 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown pass to Jaiden Brown who also had 41 total yards in receptions and one TD for Hope’s first score of the night. Braylin Smith also caught a pass for 30 yards. Trey Gomer rushed 14 carries, 98 yds & 1 TD. Hoglund also handled punting duties for the Bobcats.
Defensively, Joel Bello again proved that he can and will be a force to be reckoned with in spectacular form of 12 tackles and one fumble recovery for a touchdown in the first half. J.J Gulley also had a great game with 13 tackles. Bobcat Kaysen Haywood made 11 tackles and a sack.
Kelson White made 11 tackles and Zavier Fields ended with 6 tackles including a sack.
Despite all these great performances by the Bobcats on both sides of the ball, the game actually came down to a call as the Bobcats late in the 4th quarter, appeared to score a touchdown with an opportunity for a 2-point conversion to send the game to a tiebreaker as in last week’s win over Ashdown. After a lengthy discussion by the officials, instead of what appeared to be a Bobcat touchdown officials changed the call to a fumble into the endzone as a touchback and awarded the ball to Prescott at the 20-yard line allowing them to hold on to the victory.
The Bobcats continue to improve every week and will host the De Queen Leopards (who had an open date this week) in Hammons Stadium next Friday at 7pm. De Queen, (2-1) and Hope with a (1-2) record will head into next week’s season opening conference match up.
