Special Emmet City Council Meeting

The Emmet City Council held a special meeting about a proposed annexation on Thursday (9-25).  All Council members were present.  Information regarding the proposed annexation was handed out.  Alderman Maurice Grant led a prayer. Rob Clark kicked off the meeting with a statement.  He also noted he believes the idea that the annexation wouldn’t cost the city anything is not correct.

The floor was turned to Deanna Allen.  She recounted the events of the last meeting.  She asked the council if it was ok if she played a recording of part of the meeting where they discussed the meeting.  Alderman Maurice Grant asked Mrs. Allen if there is a petition of who wanted to be annexed.  Mrs. Allen provided a petition.  She also stated it was unfair the city residents had to pay for services such as sewer and law enforcement while she and her husband do not.  Mrs. Allen described the process of each method for annexation.  She also pointed out the rules of the municipal league.  She made note a couple times that the voters were in control.
Alderman Grant Cox said the people he talked to concerning the proposed annexation indicated they were not in favor of annexation.  Mayor Dale Booker said it was hard for a small town to pay for such a process that would cost several thousand dollars.  Mrs. Allen said the annexation would help with that.  There was some heated discussion both from the citizens that came to the meeting and the council.  Ultimately, no action was and Mrs. Allen says she will circulate another petition for annexation.
