The Dairy Freeze, Hope Landmark, Closes

A Hope landmark and iconic restaurant, the Dairy Freeze has closed.  The owners cited problems with finding staff as part of the reason for the closure.  The Adams family who has operated the restaurant for many years hopes to sell the facility.

The Dairy Freeze opened as a Dairy Queen about 1950.  Originally a drive-in, the restaurant later added a dining room and expanding the dine-in area several years ago.

A photo taken of the Hope rock group “The Zonks” to promote their appearance on top of the building has been reproduced and is hanging in hundreds of DQ restaurants across the U.S.  The photo was taken about 1967, probably by long-time Hope photographer Clyde Davis.  The night the group performed on the roof of the restaurant traffic was snarled and backed up on Third Street/US 67 which was then the major east/west highway through town (prior to the opening of I-30). Hope Police had to direct traffic around the restaurant as hundreds of teens turned out for the rooftop music.

Our best wishes go to the Adams family for their future endeavors.  We appreciate their service to Hope and their support of the Hope-Prescott News!
