Shirley Morris Spears, 75, of Baytown, Texas, formerly of McCaskill
Shirley Morris Spears, age 75, of Baytown, Texas, and formerly of McCaskill, Arkansas, passed away at home on October 7, 2025 surrounded by love and care.
Born on January 6, 1950, in Houston, Texas, Shirley was the beloved daughter of Samuel Martin Morris and Rose Bono Morris. A devoted stay-at-home mother for many years, she also substituted at Blevins Public Schools and was a part time Postmaster at the McCaskill Post Office. Later, after her children were in college she attended nursing school and graduated from Southern Arkansas University. She then found her calling as a school nurse with Goose Creek CISD in Baytown, Texas serving at Horace Mann Junior School and Highlands Junior School. Her warmth, compassion, and nurturing spirit touched the lives of countless students and families throughout her career.
Shirley was a woman of many talents and boundless creativity. She found joy in quilting, sewing, crocheting, flower arranging, and took great pride in her handcrafted creations. She was an avid bargain hunter, often spending weekends exploring garage sales and thrift shops in search of hidden treasures. A passionate Houston Astros fan, for many years she headed downtown to the ballpark to cheer them on. In later years, Shirley could often be found cheering on her favorite team from the comfort of her home. Among her greatest joys was teaching her granddaughter “Kayleigh Roo” how to sew and bake—especially her legendary sugar cookies. She never missed a game or event for her children or for Kayleigh. Her love for her family was unwavering, and she delighted in watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.
Shirley is lovingly remembered by her son, Samuel Spears and his wife, Anna; her daughter, Laurinda Glenn and her husband, Johnny; and her granddaughter Kayleigh Johnston, and her husband Jamison. She also leaves behind numerous cherished bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought light and laughter to her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Rose Morris; her sister, Loretta Morris Futch; and her cherished former in-laws, Edgar and Ora Spears.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 10:30am at Northside Baptist Church in Highlands, Texas. Burial will take place at a later date at Friendship Cemetery in McCaskill, Arkansas.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Sylvia Jeffery, Shirley’s devoted caregiver for the past four months, and to Faith Community Hospice of Baytown for their compassionate support during her final days.
