Henry C. Yerger Museum Hosts Inspiring 2nd Annual Banquet at UAHT
October 18, 2025 The Henry C. Yerger Museum held its 2nd Annual Banquet at Hempstead Hall on the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana (UAHT) campus, celebrating legacy, leadership, and community spirit. The evening was a heartfelt tribute to the enduring impact of Henry C. Yerger High School and its alumni, drawing a crowd of supporters, educators, and community leaders. Elder Gwen Duval served as the Mistress of Ceremonies, guiding the evening with grace and reverence.
Ms. Ala Mae Flenory, a driving force behind the museum’s success, welcomed attendees, followed by an invocation from Bishop Johnnie L. Jones Jr., setting a tone of reflection and gratitude. Guests enjoyed musical selections and a catered dinner, creating a warm atmosphere of fellowship.
The highlight of the evening was the keynote address by former Arkansas State Senator Linda P. Chesterfield, introduced by Mr. Ricky Pondexter. Chesterfield, a proud Yerger alumna, delivered a stirring speech that resonated deeply with the audience: “Her speech was inspiring and rallied my spirit to remember the past and move forward on the solid foundation of the heroes who took the first steps in the past. Yet there is more work to do, and Yerger’s alumnae are examples of the things that are possible when we work together.”
The banquet also honored several individuals known as “The Dreamers,” or their family representatives, with plaques recognizing their dedication and contributions. Ms. Bobbie Bridges presented the awards, while Ms. Joan Flannigan acknowledged additional guests and contributors, including a special mention of Mr. Pondexter’s earlier informal recognitions.
Door prizes added a touch of excitement, distributed through a lottery-style drawing conducted by Dr. Ira Dale Love. The evening concluded with closing remarks from Ms. Flenory and the singing of the Henry C. Yerger Alma Mater, composed by Mrs. Mary Tellington Brown—a poignant reminder of the school’s lasting legacy.
Though the formal program ended, the spirit of unity and purpose lingered as attendees continued to fellowship, sharing memories and renewing their commitment to preserving the legacy of Henry C. Yerger and the museum that bears his name.
