Washington City Council meets

WASHINGTON – The Washington City Council met on October 21st. The meeting started late, due to lack of a quorum. Last meeting’s minutes were approved. There was a passed motion to accept the financial report.
There was a dog captured and put in the pen by the fire station. Jon Barry got a phone number off the dog collar and contacted the owner. The dog has been picked up. The water report was given by Mayor Henley. The mayor said he wanted to deal with the bill the city got from Barwick Electric for about $1,920. Mayor Henely said that Barr Electric or a contractor hit a water line and allegedly did not alert the city. The mayor also said he wanted the electric company to be held accountable for digging up part of Washington Street without the city’s permission on July 16th. There was also discussion about Mike Rogers, who does the city’s water, needing permits from both the city and the state park to dig. The water revenue is up by $1,000.
The fire chief, Jon Barry gave the fire department report. He said there were six fire/medical calls since the last meeting. A couple of the trucks have been fixed. Three firefighters have passed their PPE training. There is a fire hydrant by the 1914 schoolhouse that is leaking. There has been an attempt to fix it, but it is still leaking. Mike Rogers is a planning to take a look at it. There was a passed motion to accept ordinance 328, for a 5-mil tax. The legislative audit has been received. Mayor Henley said the auditor “was especially interested in the fire department.” The meeting was then adjourned.
