HOPE — Emma Wright, a student from Hope, has been awarded the prestigious title of VFW Scout of the Year for the state of Arkansas for 2024–2025, earning a $500 scholarship from Hot Springs VFW Post 2278. Wright was selected from more than 200 candidates across the state and is notably the first female Eagle Scout in Arkansas to receive this honor.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Scout of the Year program recognizes young people who demonstrate exceptional citizenship, patriotism, and dedication to community and country. The program is open to Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Sea Scouts who have achieved the highest rank in their respective organizations.
In addition to this achievement, Wright also earned a $100 scholarship from VFW Post 2278 for her third-place finish in the Voice of Democracy scholarship competition, an annual audio-essay contest for students in grades 9–12. This year’s theme asked students to reflect on the question, “How are you showing patriotism and support for our country?”
Wright’s accomplishments highlight her commitment to leadership, service, and civic engagement—qualities celebrated by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and her community.
