Jack Alden Burge

Jack Alden Burge, 81 of Lewisville, Arkansas, passed away on December 9th, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas. Born on May 9th, 1944, in Snyder, Texas, Jack lived with his family in Austin, Texas, Alexandria, Louisiana, and Shreveport, Louisiana, before they settled in Lewisville, Arkansas, on April Fool’s Day 1953 – just before Jack’s 9th birthday.

As a young boy, Jack spent countless hours with his father building and flying model airplanes. The hobby that bonded them grew into a lifelong love of flying and aviation for Jack and inspired him to earn his pilot’s license. Flight always remained at the center of his interests; “Air Disasters” was his favorite show.

Jack proudly carried on the family legacy as the owner of Burge’s Smoked Turkeys and Hams. Under his care, the business became more than just a livelihood – it was a treasured tradition for many friends and families through the years.

Jack lived a life rooted in family, hard work, and an unwavering ability to bring joy to those around him. Known for his quick wit and warm sense of humor, he never missed an opportunity to make someone laugh, whether friend or stranger. He cared deeply for his family and friends and truly cherished time spent together.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Alden H. Burge and Margaret Deakins Burge, and his brother-in-law, Bennie Ryburn Jr., who all gave Jack unconditional love and unwavering support.

He is survived by his son, Jack Alden Burge II (Jay), his beloved grandchildren, Jack Alden Burge III and Caroline Ellen Burge, his brother, Dr. Walworth Burge and wife, Karen, his sister, Marion Burge Ryburn, his niece, Margaret Anne Ryburn, his nephews, Brooks and Wesley Burge, his great-nephew Cameron Burge, and cousins Mitzie Hale, Rick Reddy, and Tracy Thompson.

Jack treasured a lifelong friendship with Duff Burton that began in grade school. Bonded by their love of music and fast cars, they were always there for each other. He also enjoyed his friends from Shreveport, Ronnie and Sandy Simons. On many occasions, Jack spoke of his sincere gratitude for Scott Jackson, his wife Trudy, and daughter Shirleyna, who expressed extraordinary love to Jack through the years.

The family is especially thankful for his care team from Fort Worth, Texas for their devotion and love: Lakesha Compton, Davida Ervin, Latrina Finley, Veronica Gallow, and Carolyn Wills.

Jack’s mischievous laughter, profound kindness, and devotion to family will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A private service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, Texarkana, Texas.
