Programmable Logic Controllers Level 1 course to be held at UA Hope

HOPE – The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana will offer a Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) Level 1 course on February 24–27, 2026, providing hands-on training for individuals seeking entry-level skills in PLC programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

The four-day course will be held Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the Hope Campus, located at 2500 South Main Street.

PLCs are a critical component of modern manufacturing, utilities, and industrial automation systems. Skilled PLC technicians are in high demand across industries such as manufacturing, food processing, energy, logistics, and water and wastewater operations. Employers increasingly seek workers with practical PLC knowledge to support automation, reduce downtime, and maintain efficient production systems.

This course is designed to help meet that workforce need by providing applied, hands-on instruction using Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation ControlLogix hardware, including the 1769-L36ERM central processing unit, along with Studio 5000 and RSLinx software. Participants will train on PLC trainers that reflect equipment commonly used in industrial settings.

Instruction covers the basic operating principles of programmable logic controllers, including discrete and analog inputs and outputs, programming fundamentals, system maintenance, troubleshooting techniques, and networking concepts. The course is suitable for maintenance personnel, electricians, technicians, engineers, and individuals seeking to enter or advance in industrial automation careers.

The cost of the course is $1,300. Grants are available to qualifying individuals and employers.
