Winter weather changes and updates

Due to secondary roads and sidewalk conditions, the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana will be closed on Friday, January 30. All classes on both campuses are canceled. Please check Blackboard for course information. Check the college website, Facebook, and your student emails for the latest information.

Hope Public Schools will be closed on Friday, January 30, 2026, due to continued icy road conditions. District teams have been working across campuses; however, side streets and surrounding roadways remain unsafe. District crews will continue breaking up ice and snow across campuses, including bus lines, car lines, and parking lots, as we prepare for students and staff to return next week. We are hopeful that conditions will improve by Monday. The decision was made with student, staff, family, and community safety as the top priority. Any additional updates will be communicated across all platforms.

Rick Evans Grandview Prairie near Columbus: Due to hazardous road conditions continuing to plague southern Arkansas and the return of colder temps over the weekend, the following decision has been made: The Grandview Range will remain closed through Sunday February 1st, 2026. Please be careful and stay safe in this weather. We will reopen on Monday February 2nd starting our new operating hours:

Friday 10am-3pm

Due to the winter storm, the Hempstead County 4-H Banquet has been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 17th, at 6:00pm at Hempstead Hall. Please RSVP to 870-777-5771. We hope you will attend and help us celebrate the accomplishments of our local 4-H youth.

SAWS WATER: With the current weather conditions and line repairs: A Boil order is issued. Please boil any water used for drinking, for beverage or food preparation, or for dishwashing, should be boiled briskly (rolling boil) for one (1) minute prior to use.

The Hempstead County Courthouse will open at 10 am on Thursday January 29th.

Due to road conditions, Nevada School District will remain closed Thursday. Make-up dates will be announced in the near future.

Hope Public Schools announces that the Millage Community Forum originally scheduled for Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Hempstead Hall has been rescheduled. The forum will now take place on: Monday, February 9, 2026, at 6:00 PM, The community forum will provide an opportunity for families and stakeholders to learn more about district facilities, future needs, and participate in a question-and-answer session. Hope Public Schools appreciates the community’s understanding and looks forward to engaging with residents at the rescheduled forum.

Due to weather concerns and a family funeral, the Community Feed at Curry’s Outreach Ministry on January 31, has been cancelled. Tentative dates for re-scheduling are February 7 and February 28. We will keep you posted.
The City of Prescott and the Nevada County Landfill will NOT BE PICKING UP TRASH UNTILL MONDAY FEB. 2ND. The Landfill will also be closed till Monday.
NOTICE: Nevada County Emergency Management – Nevada County residents: I am currently trying to assess damage within our county, and it has been a bit difficult with the roads in disarray. I’m wanting to hear from people that have had damage to structures such as homes, poultry houses, livestock shelters etc. I’m also trying to see the magnitude of livestock loss. Feel free to share this post and help me get the word out. If you or someone you know has suffered significant damages, please reach out to me and I will be happy to share any resources that I come across during this time. Southwest Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Hope is OPEN. The emergency room is ready to receive patients. Our Patient Care Unit and Intensive Care nursing staff are on station and ready.
