Blevins City Council

The Blevins City Council was called to order by the Mayor on
February 3rd at 7:00 PM. Board members present, Barbara
Patterson, Jon Howell, Eric Smith and Kimberly Torres, arriving
late. Councilman Cassidy was absent due to health issues. The
recorder/treasurer was absent due to a family emergency. An
opening prayer was offered by Barbara Patterson. The previous
meeting minutes were read by the mayor, amended and
accepted. The financial report was presented and approved. There
were several water adjustments as a result of records clean up,
and accepted.
The council reviewed two engineering firms
statements of qualifications for the sewer remediation project and
OWN Engineering was accepted by vote. Two OWN Engineering
representatives were present to answer questions. OWN
Engineers also brought up ARDOT funding available for
Recreational Trails Program which the city is considering taking
advantage of.
The city is in the process of updating computers to
meet the AR Legislative Audit cybersecurity requirements. In late
January, the mayor discovered 21 water payments that were
stuck in the payment drop chute. This unfortunate event caused
the payments to not get posted for January payments. The mayor
is overseeing the process to ensure full credit is given to the
respective accounts with NO Late fees accrued. The mayor
extends his apologies for the mishap and the resultant concerns
for the citizens.
A new emergency beacon assembly for the water
operator’s truck was approved. There were other repairs and
improvements discussed for the water system, which is ongoing.
Road and culvert issues were considered for crack sealing. The
council thanked the volunteers, Eric Smith, Jim Jordan and Donny
Lane for the city road clean up during the recent winter weather.
Also thanks to Kenny Hill for keeping watch over the water
system.
The mayor also extends his condolences to the Mavis
family for the recent passing of Shelby Mavis.
