HOPE – On Monday March 2nd, the Hope Bobcat baseball team traveled to Columbia County to face the class A state championship winning Taylor Tigers. Although maintaining a competitive match up until the last inning, the Bobcats fell short of victory to a strong Tigers side starring pitcher Jasper Jones, who struck out a total of five Bobcats while only allowing one run during his four innings played.

Despite a loss, the Bobcats played a tough performance with many highlights to show for. Starring for Hope this Monday was Drake Mathis, a first baseman turned pitcher who combined for four strikeouts from the mound, an outstanding hit out to the left field wall, and two putouts with an assist for another, Sam Johnson, who struck another four batters from the mound as well as producing four putouts, and Trey Hoglund, who tallied an rbi single and a run himself while producing five putouts. The Bobcats will now face Horatio, Murfreesboro, and Ouachita High School from Donaldson over the course of three days from Thursday to Friday in a tournament in Hot Springs. They will begin their tournament campaign with the Horatio Lions on Thursday, March 5th, at 3:30 pm.
