PRESCOTT – Michael Massenelli, 5th grade winner and Haylee Burke, 6th grader winner, were the chapter and Arkansas winners in the John Cain-Benjamin Culp DAR American History Essay contest. The celebration was held February 23 at the Methodist church in Prescott. Georgia Estes, chapter chair of the essay contest is pictured with the two winners. She invited all participants and their parents to enjoy cupcakes and punch after the award ceremony.

Michael and Haylee have been invited to the Arkansas State Conference of DAR in Little Rock at the end of March to receive their state awards. The winners received cash awards to help with expenses for the trip. In May, one high school student from Hope and one from Spring Hill will be selected for the “DAR Good Citizen” scholarships; both projects were funded by the DAR Senate Bean Meal in February on President’s Day.
