Hope Public Schools names Jocelyn Balagot 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year

HOPE — Hope Public Schools proudly announces that Jocelyn Balagot has been named the district’s 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year, recognizing her outstanding dedication to students, commitment to academic excellence, and lasting impact across the district.
Ms. Balagot, who has more than 30 years of experience teaching science, math, and special education, currently serves students at Yerger Middle School and previously taught at Hope Academy of Public Service. Throughout her career, she has been widely recognized for her ability to inspire students academically while fostering a classroom culture grounded in care, respect, and high expectations. She also proudly shares her Filipino culture with students and colleagues, strengthening connections and enriching the school community.
The surprise announcement was made during a classroom celebration attended by students, district leadership, and staff. The moment highlighted the meaningful relationships Ms. Balagot has built and the strong impact she continues to have on student learning and growth.
The district’s Teacher of the Year selection followed a comprehensive vetting process that included current elementary and secondary Teachers of the Year, principals of current Teachers of the Year, two retired Teachers of the Year, and a current school board member. As part of the process, the committee also prototyped the Arkansas Department of Education’s state application to ensure alignment with statewide expectations.
Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Crossley has submitted Ms. Balagot’s name to the Arkansas Department of Education for consideration as Arkansas State Teacher of the Year, with the formal application process expected to begin later this spring.
Hope Public Schools will also implement updates to its local Teacher of the Year process beginning next school year to ensure each campus selects a representative who can be considered for the district honor and advance into state-level competition.
Ms. Balagot represents the heart of Hope Public Schools. Her dedication, experience, and commitment to student success continue to inspire both her colleagues and the students she serves.
Hope Public Schools congratulates Ms. Balagot on this well-deserved honor and thanks her for her continued service to Bobcat Nation.
