Veterans Program At Hempstead Hall

The Hope Kiwanis, Noon Lions, Evening Lions, Rotary, and Civitan Clubs held a joint meeting Friday November 10th to honor all veterans at Hempstead Hall. An audience of nearly 200 were on hand for the program which was organized by Bob Willis of the Kiwanis Club. After a lunch catered by Amigo Juans and an invocation by Rev. Kenny Martin of the First Aseembly of God, the Hope High JROTC posted the colors and ROTC Cadel Elizabeth Bamber led the Pledge of Allegians. The Lions Club Chorus sand the National Anthem as well as the various songs reprsenting branches of the Armed Forces.
Regional Veterans Service officer Jim Williams spoke and detailed the work his office does in conjunction with county veterans service officers such as Leon Prince. Huck Plyler of Spring Hill spoke about his efforts to send “care” packages to active duty soldiers and the guest speaker was George Baker of Arkadelphia. Baker is a retired educator and college football coach. He is also the author of several books. He talked about his experiences in the armed forces as well as his families’ service and the patriotism of his veteran father.
The meeting closed with drawings for door prizes.
