Jackie Polk Named Hempstead County Women’s Farm Bureau Committee AG Woman of the Month

The Hempstead County Women’s Farm Bureau Committee has selected Jackie Polk as our AG woman for the month of August.

Jackie has been involved in the agriculture industry for 48 years. She and her husband Dennis Polk have owned and operated a swine operation since 1989. Over the years they have continued to expand their swine operation and now they have a sow unit of 1,400 with JBS. They also raise cattle and at one point owned and operated chicken houses in the late 70’s to early 2000’s. Jackie worked on their farm early on in their marriage, and though now she is not always visible in the hog farm, she is busy running the books, making sure all is taken care of financially for their business and cooking.

While Jack, as they all call her, is responding to the day to day tasks that come along with the business, she is also a stay at home wife, mother, grandmother & now a great grandmother. Together she and Dennis have 3 daughters, Amber Montgomery (Bill), Tara Capps (Kelly), & Heidi Creech (Bruce). There are 9 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way. As a growing family, she has instilled in each of them to always put God first and that you may have to go through a valley to get the the mountain top.

Together they have made sure that each of them know the importance of agriculture, what it means to work hard, and how to earn anything they want in life. She believes agriculture is one of the closest things there is to God and without him, being in this industry would not be possible.

If you ask her, she will say being a child of Christ, wife, mother, grandmother and farm owner has been the most rewarding roles she has had in this life time. Jackie plans to continue to raise the new little ones in her family to have an appreciation for agriculture as she has with all the others.

In conclusion she states “Agriculture/farming is a great way to raise a family, so many opportunities that will teach life lessons and help those succeed. Farming comes with its challenges, but we love what we do and would not change one thing. We are blessed to be stewards of the land and a part of this great country.”
