Tax discussed at Fulton
Hempstead County Officials conducted the fourth meeting of nine throughout the county to inform the public of the need to pass a one percent sales tax increase for the work that needs to be done to prep the old Farmer’s Bank buliding for courthouse use and deal with the current buildings containment. Officials went over the main points which included the safety and health of the current workers who are working in an unhealthy environment at the current courthouse building. Fulton community members only raised a few questions easily answered by the county officials. Justice James Griffin also informed those gathered that Issue no.1 that will be on the November ballot needs to also be looked at and taken seriously by voting yes. This will help the county a great deal in road funds. But the issue at hand will be on the March 3 ballot. Even though the wording will have to do with general funds, the generated money will only be used for courthouse expenses. The way its worded was how it had to be done to get it on the ballot quickly, members say.
