Garden show, plant sale April 18
PRESCOTT – In spite of the recent wet weather, it’s almost growing season.
The coming of gardening season brings forth the Master Gardener’s 12th Annual Garden Show and Plant Sale. This year’s event will again be held at the Stokes Center at Central Baptist and will be from 7:30 a.m. until noon. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Those attending can pre-order a sack lunch for $8, which will consist of a chicken salad sandwich, chips, fruit, cookie and a drink. Lunch is sponsored by the Tri-Service Club.
The first morning session will see Blann Britton, a retired farmer and graduate of Millsaps College, talking about “How to Raise Roses without Losing your Mind”. He’ll talk about how to raise roses in today’s busy climate, presenting the newest methods and programs to allow rose fans to raise beautiful flowers year after year – and not be worn out doing it.
The second morning session will feature Minnie Shelor, the garden manager at Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, literally talking about the birds and bees on the theme of attracting pollinators. Shelor will share tips on how to create a cozy perfect space for attracting bees, other pollinators, birds and other wildlife to a home garden. She’ll also suggest suitable plant materials for Arkansas, along with design concepts for creating a beautiful area for our wild friends.
There will be door prizes and a break to allow patrons to shop for plants and the items on sale by vendors. There will also be a silent auction of the tablescapes.
All proceeds from the garden show are used by the Nevada County Master Gardeners to fund community projects throughout the county.
