Local Seamstresses Make Masks For Medical Personnel

Shirley McRoy who lives about five miles from Hope towards Cross Roads is one of several ladies in the are making medical masks for medical personnel.  McRoy demonstrated the mask making process for the “Hope-Prescott News” Tuesday.  Mc Roy demonstrated how she makes the masks using 2 pieces of 9 inch by 16 inch fabric.. The masks utilize a piece of metal-encased wire to offer a secure seal in the nose/mouth area.  Also, the masks have an area between the two pieces of cloth for some filter material.  McRoy says she uses Kirby vacuum cleaner bags for the filters as this material provides fine filter material.

McRoy has been joined by her sister, daughter, and granddaughter in the effort. So far they’ve made 115 masks.  The ladies also had 50 more.masks cut out on Tuesday.  She is donating them to area.nurses and workers at the Hope hospital.  She has also donated some to Kindred Home Health and Byreview Vet Clinic.  McRoy also noted a group of EHC ladies made 60 one afternoon in a meeting at her neighbor LaJuan Thompson’s home.
Our thanks go to McRoy and the other ladies who are giving their time and talents in making masks to help protect our local medical professionals.
