Hempstead County Clerk Gives Information About Absentee Voting And Voter Registration

Hempstead County Clerk Karen Smith says voting absentee in Hempstead County boils down to one simple beginning…just call her office at 777-2241. “Correct,” says Smith. “If someone wants to to vote by mail or absentee as we call it…they need to call my office and request an absentee ballot application. We will in turn send them the application and once it’s filled out…and we verify everything is correct, then when the ballots come in we will send them a ballot…but they have to do the application first…so the easiest thing is to just call my office”, says Smtih. You will need to be a registered voter to get an absentee ballot.
If you are not a registered voter, you have until October 5th. Says Smith, “they can come in person or they can call and we can mail them an application to register to vote. They can fill it out and mail it back in”. If you want to check on your voter registration status or need to request a voter registration application, phone Smith’s office at 777-2241.
