Mayor looking for good 2021

PRESCOTT – Prescott Mayor Terry Oliver has plenty of plans for 2021.

However, these plans are dependent on what happens with the coronavirus and how the pandemic goes.

Plans that were to be done in 2020, but were curtailed because of the coronavirus, will be the focus of 2021. Oliver said preliminary plans for a community fishing lake will be worked on in the coming year, and the sidewalk project that was to be done in 2020 will be handled in 2021. This will see sidewalks added on both sides of Hwy. 67 on the north end of town.

In addition, the TA road rehabilitation project will be done, hopefully. The project, Oliver said, should begin in January with the demolition of the current street. It will be replaced with reinforced concrete pavement to help handle the truck traffic in the area.

The city, he continued, provides services necessary and essential to the health and well being of the citizens and people in Nevada County. The city will continue working to provide these services in 2021, primarily by sticking to the employee guideline for COVID-19.

With luck, Oliver said, the young people of the community will get to enjoy the splash pad this coming summer. The splash pad was closed during 2020 because of the virus.

In addition, he said, the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office will continue to market the Potlatch property and industrial park in an effort to bring jobs in for those in Prescott and the county. According to Oliver, several small businesses opened in 2020, and this is something he’s looking to continue in 2021, with the help of the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, which will continue working with existing businesses as well as helping bring in new ones.

The city’s staff will continue working with the people to improve the cleanliness of the community and taking pride in local neighborhoods. Using the maroon and pink trash bins will be a big help as placing garbage in them will keep animals from strewing it all over the place.

Emphasis will be placed on the Prescott Police and Prescott Fire departments as well, he said, working to make sure both departments are ready and able to protect and serve the citizenry.

“City leaders are looking forward to 2021 with lots of optimism,” he said, “and excitement as, hopefully, this will be a better year for all of us.
