Shelman new museum director
PRESCOTT – Judy Duke is retiring as director of the Nevada County Depot and Museum, effective Dec. 31. Her replacement has already been named in the person of Heather Shelman.
Shelman will begin in early January as the museum will be closed from Dec. 23 until Jan. 5. She taught middle school English at Cossatot and Magnolia, is originally from Hope and graduated with a major in history from Texas A&M University at Texarkana (TAMUT) in 2013.
Shelman’s husband, Daniel, is superintendent of White Oak Lake State Park. The couple has one son, Tripp, six.
Duke said 16 people applied for the job, but Shelman was the one selected by the board. She will be introduced at the board during its annual meeting at the Nevada County Library Thursday evening. She enjoys travel, history, genealogy and historic research.
