Hope Schools Hold “Magnet Fair” at UAHT
On Thursday evening, in conjunction with the Fish Fry being held at UAHT the Hope School District held a “Magnet Fair” in Hempstead Hall. Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Crossley spoke and three of the schools pitched their school to perspective students.
Beryl Henry Elementary’s motto is every child, every chance, every day. Their STEAM school uses research and hands-on learning experience to integrate visual arts, theatre productions, performing arts expos and real world experiences into everyday curriculum. The school has a partners with the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council. They are also focused on expanded multicultural experiences. They cover grades 5-6.
Hope Academy of Public Service (HAPS) focused on public service, student debate, broadcasting, civic-minded programs and curriculum, journalism, partnership with the Clinton School of Public Service and partnerships with news outlets. At HAPS students can start a class, projects with other kids. Teamwork is a focus. Robotics, spelling, books, live animals in science department are all present.
Yerger has one of the richest histories of all the schools in the district – dating back to the 1880s in the form of Shover Street School. Yerger has changed in many ways and is adding many things. In electives/clubs Yerger is adding many different options -studdnt council, flight and space, automation and robotics, design and modelling, medical detective, forensic club, GEMS in STEAM, Agr/FFA. The statement was made that they won’t just be STEM but STEAM – including drama and agriculture as well.
Superintendent Dr. Crossly stated that there are no bad choices in the Hope Public Schools.
