Retirement Party Held For Steve Harris

A retirement party was held Friday April 28th in honor of Steve Harris who is retiring from the Hempstead County Economic Development Corporation. Sheba’s Restaurant provided the food and beverages with a wide nice selection including crabs, meatballs, cucumbers with hummus, chicken salad with broccoli, cupcakes, and many other things to munch on.
After people had a chance to eat there were speeches. The first to speak was State Representative Danny Watson who talked about his initial encounter and being impressed with Harris’s desire to help out the community. He stated official recognition is coming from the legislature.
Jerry Whitlock talked about how Harris had welcomed them to the community and caused the county to develop economically with all the great projects.
Jared Wickliffe, from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission stated Harris has always been very smart and economics has always been part of his DNA, jokingly saying that he left his wallet at home.
Nicole Raven, who worked under Harris at the EDC, said she had never had a better boss that was so kind and wants people to learn.
Dr. Ladell Douglas, President of the EDC, talked about Harris’s accomplishments including the Tyson Plant expansion and New Millennium expansion. He said he appreciated the years Harris had given working to make downtown better.
When Harris spoke, he noted the best part of the work was everyone in the community who works to make his job easier.
Harris was given retirement gifts at the end.
