Hope Kiwanis Club Hears Program On Hempstead County Library

The Hope Kiwanis Club heard from Courtney McNiel and Jamie Formby of the Hempstead County Library recently. McNiel serves as the director of the library. She began by telling the club the library is having a big book sale.
McNiel noted the library works with Kids College every year in June. She said they bring a story and help with the car line as the kids head home. McNiel says they work to build relationships with the kids to encourage them to become patrons of the library.
The library events are set for July. This year’s summer program theme is “Altogether Now”. The emphasis will be on kindness and courtesy. McNiel noted they will decorate with a 70’s motif focusing on “Peace & Love”. The program will kick off with a community coffee on June 28th. The programs start July 6th with the “Balloon Man”. July 12th will feature the “Bright Star Theater” and a play about preventing bullying. July 20th will feature a traveling zoo from Taylor, Texas. The final program will be July 27th with “Magic Mr. Nick” from Memphis. Following Mr. Nick there will be a foam party. All the programs are free and no registration is required.
The library will have an animal workshop which is like a “Build a Bear” workshop. The kids will stuff their own stuffed animals. McNiel said the times and dates will be on the library facebook page. Of course the public can also call or stop by for details. The library is located at 500 South Elm.
