Dr. Crossley Explains Millage Proposal

The Hope Lions Club hosted Hope Schools Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Crossley July 17th.  Dr. Crossley outlined the millage proposal that Hope School Patrons will vote on August 8th.

Dr. Crossley noted the district had considered building at least one new school ; however, since the present facilities are nowhere near capacity, the state would not help fund such a program.  Dr. Crossley noted constructing one new campus to serve 600 students would cost between $35 and $40 million.

Hope has some facilities that have not had major improvements in 80 years.  The current millage, 34.7 mills is the 2nd lowest in the area with Blevins being the lowest with just over 31 mills.

The district is seeking a 12 mill increase.  Should this pass, the money will go towards improvements at Clinton Primary, Beryl Henry Elementary, Yerger Middle School, and Hope High.  The biggest improvements would come at Yerger and the Hope High Agri facility.  Also funds would go towards staff recruitment and retention.

Polling places will be at the Fair Park Community Center and the Fulton Library.  Again, voting day is August 8th.

More information about the proposed millage can be found on the district’s website at hpsdistrict.org.
