Two killed in Sunday night crash (Updated)

HOPE – A Sunday night three-vehicle crash near Hope has killed two and injured one. According to the preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, all three vehicles were traveling westbound on Interstate 30 near the 23-mile marker. The report said the roadway was heavily saturated due to rain. A 2017 Honda apparently attempted to pass a 2024 Volvo and a 2019 Volvo in the left lane. The driver of the Honda apparently lost control and the vehicle began spinning in the lanes. The front of the Honda then collided with the driver’s side of the 2024 Volvo’s trailer, lodging under it. The 2019 Volvo then collided with the passenger side of the Honda.

According to the report, the Honda came to final rest lodged under the 2024 Volvo’s trailer in the right lane, and the 2019 Volvo came to final rest on the north shoulder of the westbound lanes. Killed was the driver of the Honda, Shandrika Hill, 44, of Texarkana, and passenger Jerald Jones, 35, of Texarkana. A minor in the Honda was injured and transported to Christus St. Micheal’s Hospital in Texarkana. The crash happened at 10:15 pm Sunday night. Trooper Jordan Drake investigated.
