Hope City Board

The Hope City Board met at City Hall on Tuesday. After the invocation, pledge and approval of the minutes, Bonnie Raff of the Daughters of the American Revolution,  dressed in a colonial costume,  played the part of Martha Washington. She talked about James Madison being considered the Father of the Constitution and George Mason the Father of the Bill of Rights.   She noted there have only been 17 amendments with many years between each one so the document has held out quite well over time. This week has been declared constitution week.
As Beckie Moore wasn’t there to discuss A Taste of Hope and nobody was there from the Beautification Committee,  the meeting moved on to a discussion with Pafford concerning calls and how the ambulance service is compensated.
The airport has received an FAA grant, which was approved by the Board.
The police department requested the approval of the purchase of another vehicle of the same type that was approved by the Board last meeting. After a little debate about the extra wear and tear of purchasing a vehicle a bit early,  the Board agreed to waive the bidding process and allow the purchase to proceed. The vehicle will be ready in January.
For the City Manager’s Report, J.R. Wilson the fuel system repair phase one at the airport is complete. This allows the particles to be filtered and the water to recirculate instead of mixing with the fuel. The security fencing is underway. There are a lot of rocks in the way.
The sidewalk in front of Klipsch and Clinton Visitors Centers is collapsing and needs to be fixed. When this was brought up,  another sidewalk nearby was mentioned as needing to be fixed and the question was asked whether they both could be done as a group project later. Vice-Mayor Kiffanea Talley noted it is the sidewalks that bring people into downtown and as they are heavily used, it is  important they are fixed. There was agreement about this statement.
There were a couple of Citizens Requests with one relating to concern over privacy and it protection and the other about a neighbors horses.
The meeting then adjourned.
