Lloyd Bright and Barbara Bright Jones took their giant Hope Watermelons to Republic, Missouri recently to compete in that town’s annual watermelon weigh-off. Lloyd Bright’s 221.1 pound melon took 2nd place in the competition while Barbara Bright Jones took 3rd place with a 196.6 pound melon. Lloyd Bright says they hope to take melons next year to a competition in Rush Springs, Oklahoma in addition to their yearly trip to Republic.
The Bright family has been raising giant at their farm near Hope for about 50 years. During that period, the family has grown 3 world-record melons.
