Hope School Board

The Hope Public School Board met in the High School auditorium following the Report to Public on Monday (10-16) . After the minutes and expenditures were approved, the community recognitions took place. At Clinton Primary, Clinton Philips is kind to everyone, respectful of adults and always follows the rules. Mercedes Martin has an active role in promoting the education of her child and provides strategies for her success. Edessa Walton makes her students feel welcome and goes the extra mile for them. Latoya Moldrew goes the extra mile to ensure her students’ success. Hope Retired teachers were thanked for their presence and donations.
At Beryl Henry, Kristina Macar is very well mannered. Chelsea Madden finds a way to make her son successful and to support the school. Garret Chapel Missionary Church has helped in any way possible.
At HAPS, Serenity Cheetah is respectful to teachers and  kind to the students and has a good singing voice that she shares whenever she is asked to. Katrina Jones is committed to her child’s education. Kayla White is energetic and always willing to help in any way she can. Mona Steele worked countless hours in the garden bed.
At Yerger Marvin Griffin has worked with the Robotics, Alvin Flenory has worked with the EAST project and with the Yerger Museum. Tony Anderson is doing great things for the students Jessica Garcia keeps the school data. Sam and Bonnie Raff provided materials for the baby blanket project
For the High School, Nathan Sanchez is an excellent student, coming into class with a smile and working hard. He has a bright future.  Kerry and Amanda Love are caring parent advocates.  Coach Tillman has passion and intention with the students that goes above and beyond.  Yahajira Dominguez has a pleasant attitude, warm smile and excellent service and does an outstanding job.  Hope Floral’s willingness to accommodate the floral needs of the school is much appreciated.
For the ABC program there are 120 students and the District wants to expand and reach more students.  Jacyon Philips listens attentively and always is on his best behavior.  Nicole Stewart did a really good project in running Rainbow Science  Susan Scovy leaves students feeling loves and confident.
For the Creative Action Team, Susan Macarthur is on task in academics and willing to help the younger students and great for the campus.  Shonquez Ross is very supportive of her child and the school’s program. Ms. Capatillo takes the pressure away by being willing to go the extra mile, keeping the records ready and being a team player.  Dennis Washington understands how to engage students when they are stressed and unmanageable.  Marqueta Flowers is a constant presence on the CATS campus, a liason between the school and parents and very supportive.
Miss Wiley talked about the UDL/Gear up grant. The district was awarded $30 million for 7 years. It pays for tutoring, ACT training, and a guaranteed scholarship if the students go to a UDA approved college. All students qualify for help.  This grant was applied for after the realization that too many of the district’s students were special needs in order to make sure that every student was reached.
 A Chartwell Presentation was made about the food service and their aim to make sure the students get the best food service available. They will offer the public a chance to sample some of the options available in a seat-to-table event.
Other topics of the meeting included a Visa/Green Card memorandum of understanding proposal. This gives the district the ability to fill some hard to fill positions but doesn’t lock the district in if the teachers don’t meet expectations.  The district will only pay for attorney’s fees. Bubba Powers made a motion to accept the MOU and it was seconded and passed.
The Master Plan was discussed with the agri project being finalized by October 27th and the Yerger Gym repair happening next. It will cost $500,000 and will be easily funded without taking on any extra debt.  Linda Haines made a motion to accept the plan and it was seconded and passed.  Dr. Crossley noted the Yerger Gym project would include the insulation, roof, stands, stage, bathrooms, locker room space. The timeframe for it is three or four months  and work would be expected to take place in the summer.  For the work on the Agra building Kinco Construction was chosen to do the work with a motion by Ms. Haines, which was seconded and passed.
There was the discussion of a brokerage account for philanthropic donation with the money to be used for the building fund. Mr. Courtney made a motion to accept which passed.
Other topics were Yerger wall wrap, utilities rental request and personnel all of which had motions to accept which passed.
