The Hope Lions Hear From “The Sound of Hope”

The Hope Lions recently heard from Christian and Mia Davis of the Hope High Band. The band has had a lot of success in the last couple of years and is now known as “The Sound of Hope”. Mr. Davis, the head director, told about competing in the recent band contest at Glen Rose where the Hope Band was “Grand Champion” out of 22 bands. The band also took first place in their class at Jonesboro. Hope was the top band in 4A and took 4th place overall at that contest. In Bryant the band took 2nd place in their class and 9th overall. Bryant attracts nationally known judges and did better than some 6A and 7A schools.
Mia Davis introduced Julie Russell, President of the Band Boosters. She also talked about uniforms the Band Boosters have paid for and also noted they often feed the band members. Russell talked about paying for some band camp scholarships and buying some percussion equipment. Mrs. Davis talked about the Color Guard and their awards.
The high school band has 107 students and 90 compete in the contests. The program hopes to have about 125 in the high school band next year. Mr. Davis also talked about the changes in the band halftime programs over the past year.
The band doesn’t have uniforms for the entire band. The Band Boosters have purchased the tops the band uses. The band hopes the district will have money for a set of uniforms next year.
Mr. Davis talked about the dedication of the band members and detailed their practice schedules.
Lions Steve Atchley invited the Davis’ and Russell to present the program
