First United Methodist Church of Hope Welcomed Rev. Edna Morgan on October 22nd, Rev. Bruce Bennett Set for Oct. 29th
First United Methodist Church of Hope was privileged to have Rev. Edna Morgan in the pulpit Sunday, October 22. Rev. Morgan is the District Superintendent and Chief Mission Strategist for both the Southwest and Southeast Districts of the Arkansas United Methodist Conference. She resides in Pine Bluff.
As a self-described “lifetime learner,” Rev. Morgan received a Master’s Degree in Educational Supervision and Administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL, in 1982, and a Master of Divinity from Memphis Theological Seminary in 2005.
She was a civil servant across the U.S. and overseas for 26 years, retiring as a Program/Management Analyst in 2004. Board certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains in 2007, she served as Crime Victim’s Chaplain of the Arkansas United Methodist Conference 2005-2009.
Rev. Morgan also received a Masters in Counseling at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2014 and was licensed by the Arkansas Board of Examiners in Counseling in 2023. She has served as pastor or associate pastor at several United Methodist churches in the Pine Bluff area, was appointed District Superintendent, Southeast District in 2021 and Southwest District Superintendent this year.
“I am most grateful to God for my calling and will serve daily to the best of my abilities for as long as God has me on this beautiful earth giving God all glory, honor and praise!” she has written in her biographical information. Rev. Morgan enjoys supervising pastors and leading district laity in “making disciples of Jesus Christ who make disciples equipped and sent to transform lives, communities and the world.”
First United Methodist Church of Hope looks forward to working with Rev. Morgan and to having her fill the pulpit often.
Next Sunday, October 29, FUMC will welcome Ret. Rev. Bruce Bennett, a former pastor at several area churches, including FUMC Texarkana, Arkadelphia, and Malvern. Everyone is invited to attend that service at 10 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 301 S. Elm.
Also coming to FUMC on November 5 is the Grammy Award-winning group, The Cox Family from Cotton Valley, Louisiana. The group combines the styles of country, bluegrass and gospel music and won the 1995 Grammy Award for Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album. That Sunday’s service will be a music program provided by The Cox Family and all are invited to attend, again at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
