Hope Kiwanis Club Hears From Mayor Don Still
Hope Mayor Don Still spoke to the Hope Kiwanis Club Tuesday (11-21). The mayor talked about some issues at the city’s landfill. He noted there is some leakage from an older section of the landfill that doesn’t have a lined bottom. Mayor Still said when the city built this particular cell, there were no requirements that the cell be lined. More recent cells have liners in the bottom to cut down on leakage of fluid from the landfill. The mayor noted unfortunately the city will have to close this particular cell and may have to go to the voters to raise funds for the procedure.
Mayor Still talked about how good downtown is looking and noted that about 90% of the usable buildings are occupied. The new “Street Scape” project on 2nd from LaGrone Williams to the Clinton Birthplace was also cited as a project that is very attractive. Mayor Still also gave an update on 6th Street. Another project he mentioned was an effort to put a welcome sign at the parking lot at 2nd and Pine next to the Clinton Birthplace and Klipsch facility.
