Noteworthy Monument Visible From Hazel Street at Rose Hill Cemetery

Have you ever passed this monument at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hope on Hazel Street?  During days gone by, cemetery monuments were sometimes works of art.  This monument marks the Battle family plot.  We’ve always assumed it was placed there sometimes after the death of Orrin McRee Battle in 1922.  Mr. Battle was a prominent business man of Hope who died in 1922 at the age of 42.  We’ve been told he drowned on a fishing trip to Caddo Lake.  At any rate, we have often enjoyed this monument, it truly is a work of art.
