Mayor Still Speaks at First Kiwanis Meeting of 2024

The Hope Kiwanis Club heard a short, impromptu program at their first meeting of 2024 from Mayor Don Still. Mayor Still talked about the public hearing set for that evening’s city board meeting in which the city planned to talk about possible projects to be funded by a possible sales tax. Some of the needs he talked about included a new central fire station, turf for the infield at Kelly Field, turfing the soccer fields, improving or building a new swimming pool, a rec center, pickleball courts, updating the tennis courts, a water park and/or redoing the basketball courts at Northside Park, and other ideas. Mayor Still noted recreation facilities are a big deal in attracting young people to a community. He also noted what the relocation of the courthouse to downtown has meant to the city. Mayor Still also cited Hempstead Hall and what it’s meant to Hope.
The Mayor was asked about grants and it was noted that Hope has received their share through the years but more and more smaller communities are applying and getting them so the bigger communities such as Hope are not getting them as frequently.
