Blevins School Board

The Blevins School Board met in the Fine Arts Building on Monday (2-12). After starting with a prayer, the pledge of allegiance and review and approval of the minutes, the financials for January were reviewed and approved.
There was a discussion of whether or not to hold school on April 8th with the Eclipse. The concern was that the emergency personnel would be spread out and that outsiders would show up on campus to see the eclipse. The decision was to continue with the decision to stay open as parents will still have to work. If issues come up the decision can be revisited.
The next topic was make-up days. The makeup days were May 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30. The question was asked whether or not to have school on February 19. The majority of the students want to attend on that day. There was a motion to attend on the 19th. It was seconded and passed. The goal is to finish the term as close to Memorial Day as possible.
The district has a safety grant of $85,000. The first priority for spending was access control doors for elementary and high schools. A motion was made to go with Progressive for $9,649.29. The gym has no cameras and cameras are needed for the parking lot in front of the gym. Superintendent Stephanie Dixon will investigate if the money can be used for putting cameras in these locations despite being listed as priority 2 by the state. If approved the board will vote on it next month.
The board approved asking for a waiver to start school on August 12th.
The school board members professional hours were reviewed.
The board went in an executive session and approved the resignation of a ELA teacher, Candy Richberg.
The board approved an extension to the superintendent’s contract making it a three-year contract with the same salary.
The board concluded the business section of the meeting and went into executive session to discuss the superintendent evaluation.
Students noted in the school reports for their achievements were Faith Cruz, Alyssa West, Hector Moreno, Kyle Leeper, Daniela Gomez, Alexa Hernandez, Remington Buck, Isaac Frederick and Seth Arnold.
The meeting adjourned.
