Silvey stumps for Senate seat

EMMET – Mark Silvey was in Emmet Friday night to let people know why they should vote for him as State Senator.

The event took place during the weekly singing at the 67 Gas and Grill, which was packed for both the singing and his speech.

Silvey said we need good government but don’t have it, though it can be good. The job of the government, he said, is to protect the rights, life, liberty and property of the people. This, he pointed out, is in the Constitution, both federal and state. As a minister, he continued, he told the audience he’s running to bring truth, common sense and morality to the state.

“This is a big election.” He told those gathered this district covers all or part of six counties and he doesn’t feel the current representative will stand strong for conservative values. According to Silvey, his opponent gets 94 percent of his funding from political action committees, big business and corporations. “That’s a conflict of interest. When you get money and vote you have to think about keeping them happy to keep the money coming in . I pledge not to take any money except from individual citizens.”

Silvey talked about how the legislature passed a drag queen story hour and allows such literature to be placed in public school libraries. “This is what the GOP is doing in Little Rock,” he said. “It’s abusing our children and this isn’t appropriate.”
