Ketty Lester Checks Our Her Likeness Downtown

Hempstead County native and entertainment legend Ketty Lester has been visiting with her fans this week in Hope.  One of her first stops was downtown to see her likeness painted on a mural in downtown Hope.  Here she recreates the pose in the painting.

Lester’s likeness is part of a painting entitled “Band of Hope”.  It depicts President Bill Clinton playing the saxophone, Country Music Hall of Famers Patsy Montana, Lester in a pose inspired by photo of her recording in the 1960’s, and Governor Mike Huckabee playing his bass guitar.  The painting was the creation of local artist Michael Sherbert of Hope.  Sherbert was led to create the painting after Lester visited several years ago for a Yerger reunion.

Governor Mike Huckabee used pictures of the painting in some of his campaign materials several years ago during a run for the presidency.

We’re delighted Ms. Lester got to see her painting downtown.  We hear she was quite pleased with it.  And kudos also go to Michael Sherbert who conceived and created the piece which is painted on windows at the former Scott’s building on 2nd Street in downtown Hope.
