Hope High Class of 1997 Holds Voter Registration Event

The Hope High Class of 1997 along with Order of the Eastern Star Old Washington Excelsior White Rose #128, Silver Moon Masonic Lodge #15, NAACP held a voter registration event Saturday (9-14) at the HUB in downtown Hope.  There were many businesses supporting the event as well as two food trucks and a bounce house.

Octavia Thornton-Jenkins encouraged people to register, show up, and vote.  She said she wanted people to not just focus on the presidential race but also the local elections and midterms congressional elections.  Hempstead County has a very low voter participation rate according to Thorton-Jenkins.

Jenkins, a 1997 Hope High graduate, currently lives in Arlington, Texas but came back to give back to the community.  She said it is not their only stop. They’ll back as they want to get the community involved again.
