Hope City Board

The Hope City Board met in the city hall boardroom on Tuesday (10-1). After the prayer and Pledge of Allegiance, the Fireman’s Pension Ordinance was passed. This is an annual renewal that must be voted on each year. The rate is 1 mill and is unchanged since 2002. The quorum court will set the rate in November. This supports the retired fireman, widows, and children.
A general millage grant of 5 mills was passed, This also needs to be renewed annually. This was not an increase.
Hope City Police Chief Kim Tomlin asked the board’s permission to accept the Step Grant that addresses speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelts. The federal funds received total $35,000, the state amount $4,000m and the amount provided by the City is $17,000. Permission was granted.
For the city manager’s report, in order to support the “Hope for the Future” campaign there was a request for board members to staff public information tables at public events, go door-to-door in their ward in order to gain public support, attend public meetings to answer questionsm and place fliers and posters at their businesses.
