Clara R. Ross

Clara R. Ross peacefully passed away at her home on Saturday, October 5, 2024, with her loving husband of 51 years and her family by her side.

Clara was born October 28, 1931, in Columbus, Arkansas, to parents Beatrice Cheatham and Drew Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Richard Cheatham, brothers Frank Johnson and Johnny Johnson, daughter Linda Porter, son Carl Porter, and daughter/granddaughter Yumika Sterling.

She accepted Christ into her life at a very young age, becoming a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Clara worked for several years at the Nashville Crate Company (Basket Factory) and Meyer’s Bakery, where she retired after 25 years of service.

Clara was a very active member of “The Sunshine Extension Homemakers Club” of Hope, Arkansas, where she served as the treasurer for many years and had other responsibilities.

Clara was very kind, loving, caring, and respected by all she met. If you were in her presence, you would have thought you knew her all her life. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, and spending quality time with her family, who meant the world to her. Clara loved being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing wisdom, giving directions, and telling her favorite stories.

Clara R. Ross is survived by her beloved husband, Al Ross; Five Children: Lawrence (Diane) Porter of Medical Lake, Washington, Shirley Ware of McKinney, TX, Onie (Larry) West of Little Rock, AR, Michael (Gloria) Porter of Blythewood, SC, Andrea (Barbara) Porter of Columbus, AR and daughter/granddaughter Lashika Porter of Jonesboro, AR, one sister Laverne Johnson and two brothers Marshal Johnson and Leon Johnson of Hot Springs, AR, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; special cousins: Dale (Wilma) Stuart of Lawton, OK, Chester (Veronica) Cheatham of Tollette, AR, Ollie (Yolanda) Cheatham of Newnan, Ga., and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
