Nevada County declared disaster area for July 2023 weather event
LITTLE ROCK – Governor Sarah Sanders Friday declared Nevada County a disaster area from severe storms and flooding that occurred on July 12, 2023, and authorized funds from the Governor’s Disaster Response and Recovery Fund, in the amount of $38,979.69, to be used for Public Assistance disaster relief to Nevada County. Such funds will be used at the discretion of the Director of the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management to defray both program and administrative costs.
Early on July 12th, 2023, parts of southwest Arkansas received over six inches of rain, including an unofficial report of 12.77 inches a few miles north of Waldo. Just southwest of Patmos, 7.23 inches of rain fell. That led to a number of flooded roads and closures from Hope to El Dorado. Parts of southwest Arkansas were under a Flash Flood Emergency issued by the National Weather Service’s office in Shreveport, Louisiana.
